Art MOVES 2010 - Theatre Week

Theater Conduct - for print

At the Theater:
• ABSOLUTELY NO GUM IN THE THEATER.

• Please use the stage door, located at the southeast corner of the building, when coming to and from the theater.

• All dancers/cast members MUST sign in for all Theatre rehearsals and performances. The sign-up sheet is located on the wall near the stairwell.

• All young dancers: Please listen to the older dancers and adults – please be on your best behavior. PARENTS: be sure you have reviewed what behavior is expected of your child as well as what behaviors will result in disciplinary actions.

• Backstage Volunteers: Please keep a watchful eye on dancers you’re in charge of. Volunteers/Parents will need to bring games etc. To entertain the young ones.(No ink/markers please)

• PLEASE pick up after yourselves (dressing rooms/backstage areas) and be respectful of the theatre. Items left at the end of the run will be thrown away.

• Once your belongings have been placed in your dressing room, all dancers and chaperones will convene in the house for a meeting – time to be designated.

• Once finished, dancers will be excused. Parents may retrieve students from the backstage area – once the dancer is finished.

Props:
• All dancers are responsible to double/triple check that your own props are pre set prior to all rehearsals & performances.

• Do not touch ANYTHING in the backstage area, unless it is your part of your performance. Please replace props after all rehearsals and performances.

Costumes:
• All Jr. and Sr. LEB Company performers must have a theater robe to wear to and from Wardrobe. All costumes will be picked up and dropped off from Wardrobe (in the basement of the Warner Theater). No costumes will be kept in any of the dressing rooms. Quick changes and children’s costuming are the only exception.

• ABSOLUTELY NO eating, drinking, or chewing gum while in costume. A separate “NO COSTUMES” area will be provided for dancers to have a snack or drink or to play games.

• Be certain you have used the restroom before donning your costume. Costumes must otherwise be entirely removed before entering the restrooms.

• Please be very careful with the costumes. No sitting, running, or playing in them.

• Corps de ballet: Please double/triple check that you have all of your costume pieces: Arm bands, head-pieces etc.

• No one may touch any costumes if they see them placed for quick changes backstage. Parents please follow through w/ your child -- NO TOUCHING.

• Absolutely NO nail polish or jewelry allowed (Jr. & Sr. Company allowed earring studs only).

• Absolutely NO gum chewing while on the stage, near the stage, or near any costumes.

• Ladies in Pointe shoes: Please bang your shoes very well (on cement) to avoid loudness on the stage with running etc.

• Ladies in Pointe shoes: Please be sure your ribbons DO NOT come out at anytime while on stage, especially during performances.

• Bring plenty of water to drink; The Warner is very dry and you can get dehydrated easily.

Warming Up:
• Bring plenty of leg warmers etc; only to be worn when necessary. Parts of the Theatre get drafty and can be chilly.

• All younger dancers: A light warm-up of some jumping jacks and jogging in place, along with some ankle rolls, shoulder rolls, and side stretches will warm up your body and prepare you for stage.

• Dancers ages 9 and older that are not part of the warm-up class should follow the above basic warm-up with some plies, releves, and tendus before getting into costumes.

• Dancers in the theatre class/warm-ups: Please be respectful of the Principals/Soloists having a suitable barre space for the classes. All dancers under the age 12 should be prepared to warm-up without the barre.

Traffic Backstage:
• Remember to keep the wing spaces clear for dancers entering/exiting quickly.

• If you are not “on deck” (next to perform) you are not to be anywhere near the stage. The wings and sides of the stage are for performers and crew only.

• Pick up after yourselves (dressing rooms/backstage areas) and be respectful of the theatre. Items left at the end of the run will be thrown away.

• ALL DANCERS: You must continue your exits from stage past the wings until you can completely NOT see the audience!

• The downstairs thru-way is also a CROSS OVER for company dancers. This must remain CLEAR at all times during REHEARSALS & PERFORMACES!

• Quick change dancers: Please use invisible/clear scotch tape for ribbons if necessary.

After you have Performed (for Children and Guest Performers):
• All children not performing after INTERMISSION will be allowed to sit in the theatre to watch the remainder of the show. During intermission of each rehearsal & performance children will be chaperoned into the audience - with their belongings - until after the rehearsal or performance is over. Parents should have all belongings labeled and gathered into a bag for this occasion. Once the backstage area is left, there will be no returning for the evening.

• When the performance is over a “meeting place” in the theatre will be determined for children and parents to reunite. Please refer to the Sign In Sheet when arriving at the theatre for this information.

Families and Friends of dancers:
• Unless you are a registered volunteer, you must purchase a ticket in order to be in the house during a rehearsal or performance. You will be asked to leave the house if you have not registered to volunteer or purchased a Rehearsal Voucher.

• Rehearsal Vouchers will be available from the LEB offices prior to the performance for $5 per person. Please keep this voucher with you when in the theatre.

• There will be NO CAMERAS ALLOWED; cell phone, video or otherwise into the theatre. If you are found with a camera in the seating area of the theatre, it will be confiscated.

• There will be NO TRAFFIC from the front of the theatre to the back stage area (for volunteers or attending audience) once the rehearsal or performance has begun.

• Families and friends of dancers should wait until the end of the act before leaving the theatre. Parents may retrieve students from within the theatre or the southeast entrance area – once the dancer is finished.
