At Lake Erie Ballet, dance is the vehicle which provides the individual with the tools to face, solve and excel through any obstacle or circumstance. The discipline of dance is a highly effective tool to instill respect within an individual and for the community of individuals in which it thrives. The art form provides an aesthetic for form and function as it hones the individuals ability to recognize the value of relationships, time, space and energy. Dance performance, while one of the most sought after professional aspects of the trade, is only one of the many experiences the Lake Erie Ballet provides. Whether the student is driven to reach for scholarship or the artist is drawn to explore the possibilities of the dance, the mission of the Lake Erie Ballet is to empower those who seek to “Dance through Life“.

Arts in Education
Arts in Education programs play a very large part in the mission of the Lake Erie Ballet. Every year the organization provides thousands of children and adults in the Erie area with the opportunity to experience and explore the realm of dance during Lecture Demonstrations and the Special Performance Series. The many residencies, lecture demonstrations and special performances of our outreach programs provide an avenue for many of Erie's underserved community to be exposed to the art form of dance. For some, this experience can be life altering, often changing the entire attitude of a person’s interest in education and his or her ability to make positive, healthy life choices.

The Basics about the Lake Erie Ballet

LEB
The Lake Erie Ballet, also known as the Erie Civic Ballet, is a non-profit organization founded in 1948 in the historic district of downtown Erie. Our mission is to serve the greater Erie community by providing a healthy environment in which students of dance, aspiring dance professionals, professional performers, dance artists and dance lovers can cultivate and grow their understanding and passion for the art form of dance.

LEAD
The Lake Erie Academy of Dance offers classes to students two and a half years of age and older - providing a consistent curriculum rooted in the traditions and philosophies of founders; Statia Sublette, Arlene Ashton Hay, Sharon Filone and Christina Maria Adelhardt. The LEAD curriculum provides students with a well rounded curriculum of ballet, modern, jazz and related western dance techniques. Classes are instructed by the best professionals in the field. Each year the Lake Erie Academy of Dance affords its student body and the Lake Erie Ballet Company the opportunity to work and study with prominent artists currently producing work in the field of dance. Those students wishing to take full advantage of the program are offered the opportunity to study and work with artists in residence. Students of the most advanced levels of the curriculum are afforded the opportunity to audition for the LEBC and Jr. Company.

LEBC
The Lake Erie Ballet Company is the performing arm of the Lake Erie Ballet and is the primary vehicle for the artists who work with the organization. Each year the LEBC contracts leading professionals to create and develop new vision for the LEBC. Each year, auditions for the company are held in the Spring. A small group of exceptional individuals are contracted to work closely to dance and create with our artists in residence. LEBC auditions are held in the spring and free and open to the public.

Each year the Lake Erie Ballet hosts and produces the Nutcracker for the entire community of Erie to enjoy in the historic Warner Theater. The year 2008 marked the 50th year of this time honored classic event. Auditions for this yearly production are held in the fall and are free and open to the public.
